FAQ

How long is each counseling session?

Most sessions will take 90 minutes. At Heart & Mind, the predominant approach used is Internal Family Systems (IFS). Here, sessions are best at 90 minutes each. Fees for sessions outside of the standard session length are prorated.

What are your rates?

The current rate for therapy is $100 for a 60-minute online session and $150 for a 90-minute session. The rate is sustainably priced to encourage access to therapy. Payment can be made after each session.

Is everything I share confidential?

Everything that you share with a therapist is confidential (even the fact that you are attending sessions), except in cases where there is a legal obligation to disclose, and/or if there is an immediate and specified risk of harm to yourself or another person or persons that can be averted only by disclosing.

Also, as part of ongoing growth, I may seek supervision with a clinical supervisor/consultant; in such cases care will be taken to preserve your anonymity.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no “one size fits all” for therapy – some clients do experience considerable shifts in a brief amount of time with IFS. There are also clients who experienced more complex, difficult events in their lives and take a while more to find enough regulation and reorganizing in their system.

You can decide on the frequency of the sessions based on your expectations of your therapeutic journey, the changes you notice between sessions, and resources available to you. Similarly, you are also free to terminate the counselling arrangement at any point, although a closure session to round up the therapy is recommended. Feel free to talk to me about what may be suitable.

How will I feel after a session?

After a session, you are likely to feel either very relaxed and uplifted or tired. As you would have spent the session doing deep internal work, you are advised to take a little bit of time before engaging with the busy world again. Do also drink extra water and eat well. Some people experience an increased capacity for coping with their life following a session, sometimes for hours, days, or the better part of a week.

What happens if I am running late for my session?

Do let me know if you are going to be late. While your session duration may need to be adjusted to accommodate subsequent appointments on the schedule, you will be responsible for the full session fee as that time slot has been reserved for you.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Because session slots are limited and slotting you in will mean that another client has to be slotted in later, I require at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel an appointment. Unless there is an unforeseen emergency, a flat fee will be charged for late cancellations as well as missed appointments.
